BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Marie (Elizabeth Stapleton) Payette-Peatross-Andrews died on Wednesday, August 07, 2013 at the Summit Place of Beaufort.  Born in Dallas on June 28th, 1924, Marie was the daughter of Lodie and Tiny Elizabeth (Nelson) Stapleton, and was reared by step mother Blix Stapleton. She graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston and married her high school sweetheart, Jim Payette, in 1942. His career in the Marine Corps eventually led them to Beaufort where Marie has resided since 1957. After Jim's death, Marie married Oscar Peatross; after his death, she found love once more and married Capers Andrews. Marie was an avid golfer, a charter member of Meals on Wheels, and, for many years, taught kindergarten at the First Presbyterian Church.  Many of her alumnae still reside in Beaufort!  Marie was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for many years.  She sang in the choir, was President of the Women of the Church, worked for many years with the Youth Fellowship of Charleston Presbytery, and was one of the first to receive a Life Membership in the Women of the Presbyterian Church. Marie was predeceased by a son, James Payette, Jr.; husbands Major James Payette (USMC) and MGEN Oscar F. (Peat) Peatross (USMC). She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Col. W. Capers Andrews (USAR) of Beaufort; a daughter, Judy Payette of Beaufort and Watton, Engand; a son, Richard (Michelle) Payette of Colville, WA; brothers Lodie (Mary Jane) Stapleton and Shelly (Deanna) Stapleton of Houston; step-sons Bob (Jane) Peatross of Shrevport, LA, and John Peatross of Yemassee; step daughters Marianne Mikell of Beaufort; Susan (Lee) Nall of Noonan,GA ; and Nan (Harry) Hopkins of Columbus, GA.  In addition, Marie leaves behind several nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren. Graveside services and internment will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery on Friday, August 9th at 2:00 o'clock with a memorial service in The First Presbyterian Church at 3:00 o'clock.  A reception will follow the Memorial Service in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.
