BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Marie Beatrice Myers Taylor, 92, widow of Clarence Melvin Taylor, Jr. Beaufort, SC passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2013. Marie was born August 1, 1921, daughter of Loretta Jane Kauffman Myers and Otis Ervin Myers of Hughesville, PA. She graduated from Hughesville High School in 1939 and Potts Shorthand College in 1940. She worked as secretary to the Principal of Hughesville High School during her senior year. During the World War II she and other girlfriends supported the war effort by working in an explosives factory in Lycoming County. She met the love of her life, Clarence, at a Square Dance in Hughesville, PA. They were married September 12, 1942 and spent the next 61 years on a life long adventure. Marie worked over 40 years as Secretary for Girton Manufacturing Company in Millville, PA. She served as Justice of the Peace for 18 year in Greenwood Township and for 30 years as Notary Public. She was a member of the Bloomsburg Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In 1982, Marie and Clarence continued their adventures when they retired, bought their first Motor Home and hit the road for the long overdue Honeymoon in Niagara Falls! As active members in the Good Sam's Club, they traveled throughout the United States and fell in love with Beaufort SC where they moved in 1990. There they became active members of Sam's of Beaufort Camping Club (the SOB's), the Carolina Family Motor Coach Travel Club and the Palmettos State Winnebago Club. Marie was a member of the Port Royal United Methodist Church where she was active in the Methodist Women and Port Royal Methodist Kazoo Band. She enjoyed crocheting, crosswords (in ink) and Sudoku puzzles, crafts, camping and traveling. Marie is survived by her daughter, Simone Taylor Hartranft of Eureka California, nieces Betty Myers Eichenlaub, Savannah, GA and Patty Lou Myers Clayton of Hughesville, PA, Michelle Kindt, Newtown Square, PA, Marie Victoria Kindt, Doylestown, PA and Nicole Kindt Thompson, Knoxville, TN and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Edith McClintock, brothers Cloyd Myers Savannah, GA (formerly of Muncy, PA) and Glen Myers of Hughesville, PA. The family of Marie will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at Copeland Funeral Service, Beaufort, SC. Interment will be in Millville PA Cemetery.
