DATAW ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA - Martha Petry Dooley, of Greenville, passed away peacefully Saturday at Cascades Verdae.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Frieda Petry. She was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. She was the widow of the Brig. Gen (Ret.) Edward M. Dooley also of Cincinnati, Ohio, having been married for more than 40 years. She enjoyed her role as an army wife, including the moves to various states and countries around the world and the many friends she met here and abroad. After Edward's retirement from the Army, she enjoyed living in Beaufort, first at Royal Pines and then at Dataw Island, and later in Greenville at Cascades Verdae. She was an avid bridge and golf player, an active member of the Lady's Island Garden Club, and a faithful parishioner at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Beaufort and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Greenville. She was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Edward, and mother to her late son, Thomas M. Dooley. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Anne T. Dooley of Milton, MA; her grandsons, Brook Dooley (Andrea) of Oakland, CA, and Carl Dooley (Angela) of Brooklyn, NY; her great-grandsons, Liam Dooley and Quinn Dooley of Oakland, CA; and her brother-in-law, Thomas H. Dooley (Patricia), of Plymouth, MI. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 29th at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will held at noon on Wednesday at Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Franciscan Center, P.O. Box 682, St. Helena Island, SC 29920.
