Martha Pierce Morris, age 93, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, December 26th, 2021.
On September 26th, 1928, Martha was born to James Henry and Willie Mae McMichael Pierce. Martha was the youngest of ten siblings and grew up along the Ashley River just outside Charleston, South Carolina. Martha was a talented singer who studied voice and music and was a member of the Charleston Choral Society. She was a gifted artist who enjoyed painting watercolors and composing music. Martha was a devoted Christian who loved her family and found joy in friendship, art, nature, and the church.
Martha was preceded in death by her first husband, Nicholas Herman Spitzer, with whom she had two daughters, Deborah and Jan, and her second husband, the Honorable James McCullum 'Mac' Morris, with whom she shared four stepdaughters, Sandra, Evelyn, Karen, and Marian. Martha resided in Manning, South Carolina the majority of her adult life.
Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her two daughters: Deborah Spitzer Martin (Mike) of Saint Helena Island, South Carolina and Jan Spitzer Bodnar (Chris) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and her three grandchildren: Lindsay Erin Martin of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Sarah Elizabeth Martin of Columbia, South Carolina, and Andrew Kyle Bodnar of Houston, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 12 o'clock Friday, December 31, 2021, at Copeland Funeral Service ' One Copeland Drive.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, December 31, 2021, at the graveside, Manning Cemetery in Manning, South Carolina, conducted by the Reverend David D. McManus, Jr.
The family suggests that those who wish may make a memorial to the Christian organization of their choice.
