BLUFFTON - Mary Elwood McKenzie, 87, of Bluffton and widow of John R. McKenzie, died Monday, September 7, 2015, at NHC-Bluffton.
Mary was born in Dillion County, South Carolina and was a daughter of the late Ben Tillman and Della Murrow Hardwick. She was of the Baptist faith and had taught Sunday School for 45 years. She was an inspiration to all that met her.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ben T. Hardwick.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Mary Anne Pender; a son, John R. McKenzie Jr.; three sisters, Rosa and Jean Stewart and Mae Miller; one brother, Jessie W. Hardwick; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 o'clock Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Riverside Cemetery in Dillion, South Carolina with Chaplain Ray Stewart officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Tidewater Hospice - 10 Buckingham Plantation Drive, Suite A, Bluffton, South Carolina 29910.
