Mary Royalty, 95, of Dataw Island and widow of Colonel Lester D. Royalty, United States Army (Ret.), died Monday, January 16, 2017, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Royalty was born November 1, 1921 in Gibson County, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte Connor Battram. Mrs. Royalty was a 1943 graduate of Indiana University School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse. Mrs. Royalty was a military wife who traveled the world for 30 years with her husband, Lester D. Royalty. She was a member of the Parish Church of St. Helena, where she was Co-Chair of the Altar Guild for 35 years and was a member of the Preservation Trust. She was also a member of the Dataw Country Club and Beaufort Female Benevolent Society. She was an avid golfer and bridge player.
Mrs. Royalty was predeceased by her husband, Lester D. Royalty; her parent,s Mr. & Mrs. Charles E. Battram; her brothers, Charles Battram and his wife, Alta, and Richard Battram and his wife, Patty.
Mrs. Royalty is survived by two daughters, Anne Parker and her husband, Rick of Charlotte, NC and Pamela Walker and her husband, Hunter, of Pace, FL; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 o\'clock Friday, January 20, 2017, at The Parish Church of St Helena. A private burial will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date.
