Megan Rene Littlejohn

d. October 8, 2014

BEAUFORT - Megan Rene Littlejohn, 31, of Beaufort, was many things, including a daughter, sister, friend, and lover, but most of all, she was whatever those around her needed just when they needed it. She was everyone's support person. After many long years battling addiction, she died on March 24, 2015 at home.

Her desire to help others in need extended to all those around her, and not just people. Whether two-legged or four, furry or feathered, Megan worked to make the lives of those around her easier in some way. Born on September 28, 1983 to Daniel and Callie Littlejohn in New Orleans, Louisiana, she grew up in Beaufort, South Carolina and aside from a short time away, lived most of her adult life here as well. She made caring for animals her life and worked at several animal care facilities, shelters, and clinics in both Louisiana and South Carolina.

With a quick wit, contagious smile, and desire to make everyone around her laugh, she understood that humor was great medicine. Even when she was crying she was laughing, albeit sometimes it took a little while. A childhood spent helping to care for others influenced every aspect of her life to come, always focusing on what she could do for others, frequently not making enough time for herself.

Megan suffered from addiction, a disease she struggled with for the majority of her life. She fought for sobriety for almost two decades, sometimes harder than others, never wanting to hurt those she loved, but unable to overcome the disease itself in her darkest moments. It was never her intention to hurt those she loved, ever.

Ironically, she found the hardest person to take care of was herself, and while she was unable to overcome her battle, she leaves behind a lifetime worth of memories and smiles in each person she came in contact with.

She is survived by her parents, Daniel and Callie; sisters, Nicole, Jolie, and Aimee; brother, Joshua; nieces and nephews, Dakota, Cheyenne, Carmen, David, Richard, Callie, Camille, Steven, and Spencer, in addition to a very large, loving extended family and her four-legged, 'furry children', Gumbo, Oreo, Pogie, Kool-aid, Sputnik, and Pedro.

The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Copeland Funeral Service ' One Copeland Drive.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Copeland Funeral Service. Interment will be in Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
