Molly Leatherwood Cuttino

d. October 8, 2014

BEAUFORT - Molly was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of Lester Lee Leatherwood and Ruby Jean Medlin Leatherwood.  She had one brother, Lt. Col. Philip Leatherwood, deceased. Molly graduated from Russell High School in East Point, Georgia, and graduated from Converse College with a bachelor's degree in piano performance.  She was a teacher at Riverdale Country School in New York City, a public school teacher in Florence County, SC, and taught organ and piano students for 67 years.

Molly is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert E. Cuttino; son, Dr. Robert E. Cuttino, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Jean Olivia Cuttino Tilson and Vincent Tilson; grandchildren Hayes Tilson and Evin Tilson; and sister-in-law Mary Devereaux Leatherwood.

Molly's talent as a pianist was apparent early.  As a young girl, she performed live on a weekly Atlanta radio show. She was the principle accompanist for her high school.  She was accompanist for Converse Glee Club and was music director for a Presbyterian church while a student at Converse.  She was organist for First Baptist Church, Williston, SC, and was organist and pianist in most churches her husband pastored.  She also judged statewide piano festivals.  One student who began with Molly at six years of age is now president of the South Carolina Piano Festival.  Hundreds of her students share the gift of music as performers and teachers.

She served with distinction on the Board of Trustees for Connie Maxwell Children's Home, on the Executive Committee of the General Board of the S. C. Baptist Convention, and was the first woman to serve as Chairman of the Higher Education Committee of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.  She contributed generously to the music, Sunday School and missionary organizations in each church she and Bob served.

Molly and Bob were married for 64 years, enjoyed travel to over 25 countries, and experienced God's abundance and blessings beyond measure.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday, April 4, 2015, at The Baptist Church of Beaufort. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Following the service the family will receive friends in the Green Room of the Church.

Memorials may be made to The Baptist Church of Beaufort - Post Office Bo 879, Beaufort, South Carolina 29901.
