BEAUFORT - Nalda Ann Lagakis, 84 of Beaufort, South Carolina and wife of Constantine Lagakis, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Lagakis was born May 7, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Grace de Riesthal. She graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School in New York City. She was an outstanding quilter, and her work won many awards including her winning quilt which represented the State of SC at the American Folk Art Museum in NYC. She was a long-time volunteer at the Beaufort Library and was also was a member of The Williamsburg Foundation and the Mt. Vernon Ladies Association.
Mrs. Lagakis is survived by her husband, Constantine, who she married on July 30, 1949 in LaGrange, GA. She is also survived by her daughter, Lee (Michael) Boswell of Gainesville, VA; her son, Mark (Betsy) Lagakis of Callawassie Island, SC; three grandsons, Brock Lagakis, Peter Boswell and Kyle Lagakis; a sister, Claire Hofman of Monrovia, CA, and sister-in-law, Jean Benner of Port Royal, SC.
She was pre-deceased by her sister, Joan de Riesthal Whaley, and her brother, Peter de Riesthal.
A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, April 7, 2014, at Beaufort National Cemetery.
