Nancy J. Johnson passed away peacefully on October 11, 2021, at home with her family following a long illness.

She was born to late John Paul Synnott, II and Aldona Isabel Yanchitis Synnott on January 25, 1939, in Bridgeport, CT. and had four siblings: Patricia Ann Webb, Bonnie Jaqueline (Corris) Synnott, and John Paul Synnott, III, all of whom are deceased.

Her marriage to William Roy "Big Pat" Sherrill, II (now deceased) produced two children, April and William Roy "Little Pat", III. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Thomas Codey Foster (Erin), Maria Kathryn "Kate" Foster, Lindsay Nichole Katilius, Haley Madison Hernandez (Israel) and Justin Mayfield. She leaves behind 9 great grandchildren: Kaylee, Levi, Callan, and Ethan Foster; Tristan Katilius; Giovani, Lorena, Isabel, and Amelia Hernandez and Justin Carter "JC" Mayfield.

Nancy is also survived by her loving niece Tracy Webb, and nephews; John Webb, and Michael, Charles, and Buddy Corris.

Nancy earned an associate's degree in Deaf Studies and became an interpreter for the deaf. She also worked with Native Americans in the Outward-Bound program in Montana. She received her bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation and master's degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Nancy moved to Beaufort in 1990 and was active in the AA community and had more than 30 years of sobriety. She has served countless people as a retired therapist, AA sponsor and interpreter for the deaf. She loved her family, learning new things, reading, the ocean, and animals.

Nancy was an artist, writer and gardener and gave "forever homes" to countless stray cats. Her door was always open and the coffee pot always on for anyone in need of a listening ear. Nancy was loved and respected by many. Her skill and intuitive guidance helped countless alcoholics achieve sobriety and live productive lives.

Nancy's expertise as a counselor led her to co-found Beaufort's Emotions Anonymous group, which helped those in need learn to cope with life's challenges. As in AA, she provided her healing services without charge.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club at 5 p.m. Saturday October 23 followed by a reception.
