FRIPP ISLAND - Mrs. Patricia Anne Cooper Thompson, 77, of 1 Ibis Court, was received into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, from Beaufort Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Laurens County, S.C., on Jan. 9, 1936, Pat was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Allie Anderson Cooper. Growing up, she was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and presently attended the St. Helena Baptist Church, Lady's Island, S.C. She was a member of the Fripp Island Woman's Club and Yacht Club.
A graduate of Ware Shoals High School and Greenwood College of Commerce, she leaves behind her husband of 58 years, William Lowell Thompson, Sr.; a daughter, Cheryl T. (Robbie) O'Dell of Cayce, S.C.; a son Daniel E. (Bobbi) Thompson; grandson, Daniel Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jasper, Miranda and Caroline of Ware Shoals, S.C., one sister, Miriam C. Bagwell of Clemson, S.C.; and one brother, Robert E. Cooper of Waterloo, S.C. Pat was predeceased by a son W.L. (Bill) Thompson, Jr.; three brothers Horace, Wilbur and Perry Cooper; and three sisters Virginia Davis, Mary McAllister and Sidell Cooper.
Pat traveled the world with her husband during his military career, taking Miss Letitia Frank's recipe for Chinese Chews with her, delighting friends even in Germany and England with them! Prior to her retirement to Fripp Island in l991, she worked as a travel agent with Greenwood Travel, never meeting a stranger. Armed with her Mother's favorite verse of scripture, Romans 8:28, and her servant's heart like her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she touched numerous lives with her indomitable, never-say-die spirit.
In accordance with her wishes, her body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Fripp Island All Faiths Chapel, after which her ashes will be spread on the Island, her son's grave and her parents' grave at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurens County.
