LADY'S ISLAND - Paul Augustus Archer was born in Geneva, Nebraska on August 19, 1920, the son of Virgil and Elva Stinton Archer. He died quietly at home, March 9, 2015.
Paul married the love of his life, Agatha Jirkovsky on 18 August 1941 in Milligan, Nebraska. Paul graduated from Geneva High School in 1937 and the University of Nebraska in 1943. He served in the Army during World War II, first in Hawaii and later Guam. Following the war he went to Detroit, Michigan where he worked four years in a national CPA firm. He became a CPA in 1949 and joined Ford Motor Company in 1950. He joined Chrysler Corporation in 1959, serving mostly in the International Operations. He served Switzerland, Australia, Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil. He was Managing Director of companies in Argentina and Colombia and retired in 1980 when Chrysler decided to abandon International operations. He also holds a Masters degree in Finance and Economics from the University of Detroit.
After retirement Paul and his wife Agatha moved to Beaufort, S.C. where he lived until his death. He was involved in a number of volunteer activities. For 16 years he coordinated Tax Counseling for the Elderly. He served on the Budget and Allocations Committee of the United Way for 10 years and was appointed to the Lady's Island St. Helena Fire District Board and served 10 years, 4 as Chairman. Paul was an avid golfer and was a member of Lady's Island Country Club and The Dataw Island Club. He was a Life Member of the South Carolina Coastal Seniors. Paul was also a member of St. Peters Catholic Church where he served as a lay reader for many years.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Agatha, his parents and brothers Harold and Eugene and half-brother Dudley.
He leaves mourn him his two daughters, Anita Powell of Houston, Texas and Paulette Archer of Australia, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Paul also leaves his half-brother Frank of Warsaw, Missouri and half-sister Roxanne of Kansas City and Lois of San Francisco.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Copeland Funeral Service - One Copeland Drive.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 Monday, March 16, 2015, at St. Peters Catholic Church on Lady's Island. Burial will follow at 1 o'clock at Beaufort National Cemetery with Army Honors.
