BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Paul L. Yantis, Jr., 87, of Beaufort, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Helena Housein Port Royal, South Carolina.
Paul was born in Westerville, Ohio and was the son of the late Paul Yantis Sr. and Mary Bruce Yantis. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama in 1950, where he received a BS in civil engineering. He was married to the late Patricia Lindsey Yantis. He lived in Atlanta from 1958 until 1991 and worked for Batson-Cook Construction Company in Atlanta, Georgia for his entire career of 41 years. He rose from field engineer in 1950 and retired as President of the Atlanta office of Batson-Cook Construction Company in 1991. Paul was a member of Hillside Presbyterian Church, Decatur, Georgia for 40 years, where he served both as a Deacon an Elder. He was a life-long Alabama football fan. Paul moved to Beaufort, South Carolina in 1991 and was a member of the Beaufort Rotary Club and the Power Squadron, where he taught navigation course. He enjoyed wood turning and made beautiful bowls. Paul was involved with the Beaufort Art Association, was in a bridge club and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
Paul is survived by two children, Paul L Yantis III, MD and his wife, Shirley, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and Laurie Schnaubelt of Beaufort, South Carolina, and five grandchildren, Jonathan Yantis of Charleston, South Carolina, Philip Yantis of Vail, Colorado, Patti Lee Schnaubelt of Jacksonville, Florida, Kevin Schnaubelt Jr. of San Antonia, Texas, and Kelly Schnaubelt of Beaufort, South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, June 27th, at Beaufort National Cemetery with Army Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Beaufort Power Squadron or to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
