It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Peter Joseph Comunale II, 83, of
Beaufort SC. Peter left us peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of June 11th, with family by his
side at Friends of Caroline’s Hospice in Ridgeland.
Peter was born on February 19 th , 1941 in New Brunswick NJ to parents Joseph Comunale and Mary
Teffenhart Comunale. He spent his childhood hunting, fishing, trapping and trying not to get caught
skipping school so he could be outdoors. When he was in school, he was an accomplished power lifter,
helping lead his team to the NJ State Lifting Title.
Peter joined the Army after High School, attending boot camp at Fort Dix NJ. He became an MP after
completing training at Fort Polk LA. While stationed here, he earned a “Letter of Commendation” for an
apprehension he made while on duty. He finished out his service to the US Army in Korea.
After the military, Peter attended the NY School of Visual Arts where he won a “Certificate of
Excellence” after taking first place for a sculpture he submitted. He was the president and founding
member of the NJ Taxidermists Association, once again winning several awards for his amazing artistic
abilities that he poured into his mounts. He was also an artist for Field and Stream and Boys Life
magazines. Pete truly tried to live by the quote “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your
life.”
Because he turned hobbies into occupations, Pete never really retired. He was always doing something
that he enjoyed, and once he started something new, he’d become great at it! Painting, taxidermy,
wood carving, wood burning, making leather goods, commercial crabbing, clamming, oystering, a
hunting guide, a fishing guide….These are just a few of the things he did to have fun and he just
happened to get paid for. The past several years, after moving from North Carolina, Pete spent most of
his time hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was an amazing father and grandfather,
always patiently teaching his skills or tricks of the trade. He was an artistic, creative, smart, kind and
funny person that will be missed by all that knew him.
Peter is survived by his wife, Gloria Comunale of SC, her daughter, Amanda Casey Insley of MD, his
brother Joey Comunale of NY, Daughter, Yvette Marie Pellegrino, her husband Roberto Pellegrino and
their children Dante, Giovanni and Sophia of Beaufort SC, Son, Tony Comunale, his wife Michelle Grey
