BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Philip Edgar Datz, 80, of Beaufort, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his family. Philip was born in Long Island, New York. He was a son of the late Philip and Cecil Heider Datz. Philip served in the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the AMVETS in Port Royal and the VFW in Beaufort. Philip was an avid reader, loved to garden and was a supporter of POW's and the Wounded Warriors Project. He was a great father, grandfather, and friend. Philip leaves behind a daughter, Karen Stanzel of Durham, Connecticut; a son, Scott Datz of Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren, Elenna Sofianos and Erik Stanzel; a sister, Diane Thomas of San Antonio, Texas and two brothers, Thomas Datz of Medford, New York and Joseph Datz of Germany.
A memorial service will be held at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, October 28, 2012, in the chapel of Copeland Funeral Service - One Copeland Drive.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the AMVETS - 1831 Ribaut Road, Port Royal, South Carolina 29935.
