Priscilla L. Sandel Perkins of Beaufort passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on July 31, 2021.
She was born on August 10, 1927 in McClellanville, SC to James B. Leland and Abbie Morrison Leland. She was a graduate of McClellanville High School and graduated with honors at Coker College as a history major. She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church where she joyfully sang in the choir and more recently a member of The Parish Church of Saint Helena for a number of years. Her involvement in many organizations include: charter member of the Thomas Heyward, Jr. Daughters of the American Revolution, Past President of the Stephen Elliott Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy, and an active member of the Dr. Henry Woodward Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century, named for her ancestor and 10th great grandfather. Additionally, Priscilla (or Pat as many friends called her) was a proud member of the Beaufort Historic Society, Heritage Society of Beaufort, and a Literacy Volunteer of the Low Country. One of her greatest achievements was teaching for over thirty years, primarily at the Beaufort Junior High School and being named Beaufort County Teacher of the Year.
She is survived by her three children, Anita Sandel Henson (Jody) and Adele Sandel Martin of Beaufort and William C. Sandel, Jr. (Sherra) of Gloucester, VA. Lovingly known as Meemaw to five grandchildren, Ashley H. Robinson (Jay), Priscilla H. Caselli (Dave), David L. Morris (Farah), James W. Metz, IV., Meredith S. Capece (Giuseppe) and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Anne L. Bridges, husband Joe C. Perkins and grandson William C. Sandel, III.
She will always be remembered as a true Southern Lady in every way and will be missed tremendously by her family and the many students she taught and thought so much of. She is now with her savior, family and those close friends who predeceased her.
A memorial service will be held at The Parish Church of Saint Helena on Friday, August 6th, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. followed by a reception at the Parish Church Hall.
The graveside service will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery at 2:00 P.M.
