Randolph P. Dominic, Sr., formerly of Searsport, Maine, died of natural causes in Beaufort, SC on March 25, 2019. He was 94.
He was born July 27, 1924, in Torrington, CT. His parents were Paris Marcello and Anna (Vasso) Dominic. He attended local schools and graduated from Torrington High School in 1941.
Randy studied at Northeastern University in Boston for one year before entering the Navy's V12 officer training program. Here he met his future wife, Elizabeth Travers, who was the younger sister of Randy's roommate, George.
The Navy sent Randy to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, where he graduated with a degree in aeronautical engineering. After graduation, he was sent to Midshipman's School at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. He was commissioned as an Ensign in 1945.
Randy served in the Naval Air Transport Service, at what was then Alameda Naval Air Station in Oakland, CA. Later he transferred from active duty to the Naval Reserves and went to work for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Corporation.
He returned to academia at Lehigh University in Bethlehem PA where he earned a master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1949 and taught for two more .years.
Randy was hired by McGraw-Hill Publishing Company in New York City as an editor of Product Engineering Magazine.
In 1956 Randy Senior accepted a job as Vice President of Engineering at Titeflex Corporation in Springfield, Massachusetts. Titeflex Corporation fabricated flexible hose for aerospace and industrial applications--Titeflex products helped to put a man on the moon! Randy left Titeflex to open his own advertising agency, R. P. Dominic Associates. In 1972, Liz and Randy Senior moved to Primrose Farm in Searsport, Maine; he continued to work as a consultant for Titeflex. He also taught in the Cooperative Education Department of Belfast ME High School for 10 years while selling real estate in the summer.
After retiring from teaching, he continued to sell real estate; Randy Senior served as President of the MidCoast Realty Association and was named Realtor of the Year for 1990. He was active in the community, serving on the Searsport ME Planning Board and was an active member of the Lions Club. He then went on to become a professional real estate appraiser and worked well into his 80's.
Randy Senior and Elizabeth permanently relocated to Beaufort SC in 2017. This past March 1, they celebrated their 73rd year of marriage.
Randy Senior loved hunting and fishing with his son, Randy Junior. They shared a number of adventures in faraway places. He loved fishing at Big Lake, in Grand Lake Stream, ME. He also enjoyed gardening and mowing the lawn around his beloved Farm.
Randy Senior is survived by his wife, Elizabeth and their three loving children and their spouses: Randolph Jr. and his wife Sheryl Beck Dominic, Annie Dominic Robinson and her husband Skip, and Cristina Dominic Ginorio and her husband Ralph.
Randy Senior's ashes will be buried at the National Cemetery in Beaufort in November 2019.
