Elmer A. "Ray" Mischock, Gunnery Sergeant United States Marine Corps Retired, 91 of Port Royal, husband of Delena Connelly Mischock, passed to eternal rest Friday, July 09, 2021 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Ray was born in Long Island, New York March 1, 1930 and lived there until he joined the Marine Corp at the age of 17. He was an amateur photographer and took pictures of the Beaufort Naval Hospital ground breaking and construction. He served as an air traffic controller for 22 years and was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam Conflicts.

After retiring from the Marine Corp at the age of 39, he went to work for the Army to set up the Helicopter Air Traffic Control School in Fort Rucker, Alabama. While there, He went to Troy State University and received his undergraduate degree in Business and a Master's degree in Education. After working and teaching for the Army for 8 years, he moved to Orlando, Florida and worked for the Navy Training System Center and helped develop the training systems for aircraft and nuclear submarines.

Several of Ray's highlights of his career as a civilian included an invitation to board a nuclear submarine; three weeks in Hawaii to fine tune the Navy Wet Trainer; and an invitation to the Navy Seals graduation ceremony in Coronado, California.

After retiring at 58, he spent the rest of his life traveling with his wife of 59 years, enjoying his life to the fullest.

A graveside service for Ray will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2021 at Beaufort National Cemetery with United States Marine Corps honors.
