BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Richard (Hardy) Banfield passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 20th at home in Beaufort, SC. He was born on March 5, 1945 in Hartford, CT to Richard (Dick) and Nancy Banfield. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Murphy; children: Nancy Banfield of Manchester, NH, Tripp Banfield of Glasgow, VA, and James Banfield of Cumberland, ME; his grandson Cole Banfield of Lexington, VA; his sisters Beckett Jordan of Topsham, ME and Polly Nodden of Fortunes Rocks, ME and many nieces and nephews. He lived nearly all his life in Maine where he raised his family and started a construction company, The Trade Center, in Biddeford. He sold this to his business partner in the early 90s pursuing other interests including a stint as innkeeper in Northern New Hampshire. Adair Country Inn evolved at this time and in the late 90s returned to Maine. In 2010, Pat and Hardy moved to Beaufort, SC to enjoy retirement and warmer climates. Hardy continued to love woodturning, bicycling, and photography and he passed away doing what he loved, in his woodshop turning and in the only manner he would have approved of quickly and without any pain. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions be sent to: AWS Animal Welfare Society, PO Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094
