Richard Terence 'Terry' Weiland, 75, of Beaufort, South Carolina, died Saturday, October 2, 2021, at his residence, CAVU in Burton, South Carolina.
Terry was born in Miami, FL, and was the son of the late Lt. Col Charles Patrick Weiland and Josie Matthews Mitchell. Terry was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy during Vietnam. After leaving the Navy, he became a teacher for public schools and the Department of Defense for 30 years, teaching English, Science, and Mathematics, which enabled him to live in Canada and England. Terry loved sailing, traveling, fossil and mineral collecting, and was such an avid hiker he was awarded the Duke of Edinburgh Award while in England.
Terry is survived by his wife, Linda Smoak Weiland, and his two daughters, Melinda Carey Weiland Cato with her husband, Josh Cato, and Sharon Ginger Weiland with her husband, Josh Beisel. He is also survived by his two beloved grandsons, Lucas Cato and Travis Cato.
A graveside service, with United States Naval Honors, will be held at 12 noon Friday, October 8, 2021, in Beaufort National Cemetery.
