CALLAWASSIE ISLAND - Robert "Bob" C. Bailey, of Callawassie Island, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle against cancer. He was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on October 19, 1935 to Reginald T. and Katherine E. (nee Wisegarver) Bailey.





After graduating from Hagerstown High School, he attended Capital Radio Engineering Institute (CREI) in Washington DC. He began his career with Page Communication Engineers that set him on a life-long work adventure that took him to places such as Greenland, Morocco, Turkey, Italy and Spain. This introduced him to cuisine that developed his lifelong passion for food, wine and gourmet cooking.





It was during this time that he met and married Ruth E. Jacobson of Worcester, Massachusetts who preceded him in death in October 2009 after 52 years of marriage.





After his career with Page Communication Engineers, he transition into the cable television industry which took him all over the United States and allowed him to golf some of the nation's best golf courses. It was this passion for golf that lead him to Callawassie Island where he and Ruth lived and enjoyed the island lifestyle and met lifelong friends Bob and Carol Ann Brown, Andy and Maggie Mellen and others too numerous to name.





He is survived by his daughter, Karen Schwarz and her husband, Lawrence, of Wilmot, Wisconsin; his two grandsons, Robert and David; his brother, Terry Bailey and his wife, Joan, of Culleoka, Tennessee; nieces, Kristin Bailey and Kendel Martin of Baltimore, Maryland and Austin, Texas respectively; sister-in-law, E. Louise Yleva of Gardner, Masschusetts; and cousin, William Wisegarver and his wife, Terry, of Richmond, Virginia and numerous friends and golfing companions.





The family and friends are invited to attend an informal gathering celebrating Bob's life at his home on 28 Island Creek Drive, Callawassie Island, South Carolina from 2 until 5 o'clock, Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the American Cancer Society - 15 Palmetto Business Park Road, Palmetto Bay Road, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 29928.
