BEAUFORT - Robert Harvey Kitchen, Jr, 88, of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Beaufort Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 12, 2015.
Robert was born April 1, 1926 in Beech Creek, PA, the firstborn child to the late Guila (Wagner) Kitchen and Robert Harvey Kitchen, Sr.Robert was a master mechanic by trade and the bulk of his career was with John Deere. He and his wife Frances owned and operated a log cabin motel for 12 years in Augusta, WI. They retired to SC in 1987 after doing a lot of traveling.
Robert was a WWII Vet, recipient of two purple hearts. He was a member of Port Royal United Methodist Church, life member of The Disabled American Veterans, and life member of Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances (McCloskey) Kitchen; son, Joseph Harvey Kitchen (Cindy) of Tripoli, WI; daughter, Vicki M Young of Beaufort, SC; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, and 2 brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Larry G Kitchen, son-in-law Paul (Wayne) Young, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Memorials may be made to Port Royal United Methodist Church, discretionary fund, (P.O. Box 281, Port Royal SC 29935), Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12 (P.O. Box 392, Port Royal, SC 29935) or Military Order of the Purple Heart.
In compliance with Mr. Kitchen's wishes there will be no viewing or service at this time.
At a future date a private service with the family will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery.
