BEAUFORT - Rose Y. Mark of Beaufort, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at her home on Saturday, November 22, 2014, of complications of pulmonary fibrosis.
Rose was born in Baltimore, MD, to the late Morris and Frieda Yospe. In 1944, Rose married Ernest Mark of Beaufort and soon after moved to the South to assist Ernest in opening Mark Furniture. Rose was very involved in her community, serving on many boards and commissions, but she was most involved in what she called "our little synagogue", Beth Israel on Scott St. In fact, Rose was the first female president of the congregation and served for many years in that capacity. Her love of the Synagogue never waivered and she remained involved throughout her life. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Ernest and her four siblings.
Rose is survived by her children: Barbara Mark, Janet Mark (Milledge Morris), Larry Mark (Robyn) and Michael Mark (Dorinda), all of Beaufort; her 5 grandchildren, Lisa Mark of Summerville, JoAnn Davis of Plantation, Florida, Melanie Gladden (Gerald) of Charleston, Alyson Wiggins (Kent) of Columbus, Georgia, and The Reverend Alex Mark (Stefany) of Beaufort, as well as 7 great-grandchildren. Nephew Arnold Quitt of Beaufort was of great assistance to her in her later years.
In the final year of her life, her children and grandchildren celebrated her life by having a family night each week.
Rose's generosity was boundless, her gifts graciously given and her love unconditional. She will be missed and forever loved by many.
A service will be held at 1 o'clock Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Beth Israel Synagogue - 401 Scott Street in Beaufort, with interment immediately after at the Beth Israel Cemetery on Bladen Street.
