LADY'S ISLAND - Rudolph Grant Schlobohm of Glen Ridge, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2015 at his residence on Lady's Island, South Carolina. Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to Arthur F. Schlobohm II and Marilea Deetjen Schlobohm, Rudy raised his family in Montclair, New Jersey before moving to his beloved Beaufort, South Carolina with his wife, son and brother. He later acquired and operated a local UPS Store on Robert Smalls Boulevard.
Rudy was a Christian, a family man and an avid financier and planner, working for Northwestern Mutual Life in Summit, New Jersey for the vast majority of his career. After visiting Beaufort on a business trip, Rudy vowed to move his family down in aspiration for a new life in the Lowcountry, and became a devoted member of Beaufort Rotary Club and Tidal Creek Fellowship on Lady's Island until his death.
Rudy enjoyed spending time and traveling with family, investing, cooking, photography, and had a passion for German motorcycles and automobiles. He was a proud Beaufortonian and quiet philanthropist of many local businesses and organizations. Rudy remained an indefatigable husband and caretaker to his beloved wife, Vicki until his passing.
Rudy was an enormously proud father of his daughter, Melissa Schlobohm of Beacon, New York, his son, Karl and his wife Mercedes Schlobohm of Beaufort, and was a proud grandfather to his new granddaughter, Athena Schlobohm. He is survived by his wife Vicki Schlobohm, his brother, Arthur F. "Todd" Schlobohm III of Beaufort and his sister, Marilea Kimm Schlobohm of Brant Lake, New York.
The funeral service will be held on July 25 at 12:00pm at TIdal Creek Fellowship on Lady's Island, followed by a celebratory remembrance at his household. As per his wishes, there will also be a separate service held on September 19th to spread his remains in the woods of the Adirondack Mountains by his family's cabin in Brant Lake, New York. Following the service there will be a Celebration of his life held at 1:30 at his residence.
