Russell Lee Brandt, 76, of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed peacefully on the evening of May 30, 2018.
Born in Annville, Pennsylvania, Russ, the son of Herman and Alice (Towers) Brandt, served in the United States Air Force upon graduation from high school. Upon his discharge, Russ enjoyed a long and varied career in retail sales as he settled with his family in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In his leisure time, Russ developed a passion for fishing wherever and whenever the fish were biting. His encyclopedic knowledge for his passion made him an excellent guide and teacher. In his younger years, Russ' experiences as a hunter and fisherman led to a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors from mountains to the ocean. His quiet calm and wry sense of humor were staples of family vacations and holiday gatherings.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 38 years, Wanda (Layman) Brandt.
He is survived by his brother, James Kenneth Brandt of Annville, Pennsylvania; a son, Richard L. Brandt of Freeport, Texas; his daughters, Sharon (John) Dwyer, of Beaufort and Lynda (Robert) Gevers of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two grandchildren, Crystol (Alan) Gerding of Akron, Ohio and Robert John'RJ'Gevers of Fort Wayne, and three step-grandchildren, John P. Dwyer and Kathleen M. Dwyer of Portland, OR and Kevin M. Dwyer of San Diego CA.
We thank the many health care professionals who provided tender, loving care to Russ and the family in the last weeks of his life. The comfort and peace those professionals provided made his journey one of grace.
