Sallie Horton Sheppard

Sallie Horton Sheppard, age 62, of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away comfortably in her home on February 25 th , 2025 after a courageous and determined year-long battle with cancer.

Born on August 6,1962 in Aiken, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Walton Horton. She graduated from Sewanee, The University of the South and went on to have a fulfilling career at Capitol Coffee for over 30 years. She was known for her hard work and dedication to her colleagues and her customers.

Sallie was the beloved mother of Sarah and Anna Sheppard. She is survived by her sister, Louise Brunson and her husband Buddy, and her brother Grey Horton and his wife Marti. She is also survived by her aunts, Carolyn Mullen and Mary Grey Boatwright, and her many cherished nieces and nephews and their families: Ben Brunson, Charles Brunson, Mary Grey Breckenridge, Thomas Horton, and Grey Allred. She was welcomed into heaven by her brother, Tommy Horton, and both of her parents.

A woman of many talents, Sallie had a passion for being on the water and a love for animals, gardening, and music. She was a tennis player and could often be found walking her dog, Jasper, on the Spanish Moss Trail. She was an Elder and a Deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort and enjoyed participating in Water Mission’s Walk for Water. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and care for others will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 3rd at First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort at 11am. A reception will follow the service in the First Presbyterian Church Reception Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort in her memory.
