PORT ROYAL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Sara McKenzie Funk, 91, of Beaufort, SC died on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. Ms Funk was born May 4, 1921 in Warrior, AL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ret Colonel Glenn Charles Funk, USMC, her parents, James Monroe McKenzie and Carrie McCannally McKenzie, her brothers, James Barton McKenzie, and Kenneth Franklin McKenzie. She is survived by her sister, Martha McKenzie Bolling of Crane Hill, AL, her nieces and nephew: Major General Kenneth Franklin McKenzie Jr. USMC, (Marilyn) of Alexandria, VA; Holly Guzowski (Joe) of Alexandria, VA; Cameron H. McKenzie of Twin Falls, ID; Andrea McKenzie Reiber (Mark) of Birmingham, AL; Alan Barton Bolling (Sandra) of Crane Hill, AL and several great-nieces and nephews. Sara was a member of Carteret Street. United Methodist Church in Beaufort, SC and a member of the Gray Blades. She volunteered at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, The Beaufort Police Department, and Meals on Wheels. Sara was active all her life; her favorite hobbies included gardening in her yard and attending church. Funeral services will be Monday, October 22d at the Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Carteret Street United Methodist Church.
