Sarah Parsons Means Taylor was born on February 8, 1949 in Charleston, S.C., the third daughter of William Martin Means and Mary Battle Parsons Means, both deceased. Sarah is survived by her husband, Arthur Manigault Taylor, a daughter, Susanne Lowndes Taylor, of Charleston and a son, SSG Arthur Manigault Taylor, Jr. of Charleston. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. William Elliott (Mary Battle Means) Hutson and Ms. Harriott Pinckney Means Johnson, both of Charleston, along with many nieces, nephews and their respective families. Sarah attended Charleston Day School and then graduated from Hannah Moore Academy in Reisterstown, MD in 1968. She went on to attend Greenbrier College in West Virginia and finished with an Associate Degree in Science in Pre-School Education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia in 1971. Sarah married the love of her life and devoted companion, Bobie, in September, 1974. Sarah learned at an early age about volunteering. She shared her time and boundless enthusiasm with many organizations. Besides being a devoted mom, she was an active member of the Junior League of Charleston where her mother had been a Charter Member. While living in Mount Pleasant, Sarah spent many hours volunteering at her children's schools: Mt. Pleasant Academy and Moultrie Middle School, and at their church, St. Michael's Episcopal Church. In 1993 she and her family moved to Beaufort, S.C. where she was active with the St. Francis Chapter of the PCW and the flower committee, both with the Parish Church of St. Helena (Episcopal). Sarah was also a member of the Lady's Island Garden Club, Thomas Heyward Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served on the board of Girl Scouts of Carolina Lowcountry, Inc. (now Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina, Inc.). Most recently Sarah served on the State Board Committee of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in The State of South Carolina as Historical Activities Chairman and as the Lowcountry Town Committee Chairman. Sarah will be most remembered for her love of life and wonderful spirit. She was always so enthusiastic about whatever her children's current interests were - firefighting, the Army, the National Guard, hunting, rock bands, etc. Sarah loved her husband Bobie very much as they would spend all their free time together. Sarah's children always came first and her devotion to her family was undying. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parish Church of St. Helena (Episcopal), Beaufort, S.C., Thomas Heyward Chapter of the DAR, or a Breast Cancer Charity of your choice.
