SFC Toshio Uyeda, U. S. Army (Ret.), 87, of Beaufort, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving daughter and friends on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Toshio was born in Pohakea, Hawaii on July 31, 1929, to the late Tomoki Uyeda and Shizuko Ishikane Reyla. He served in the United States Army, where he received various commendation awards. He was a Korean War Veteran. He later returned to Korea as an advisor with KMAG (Korean Military Advisory Group). After his retirement from the United States Army, he worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1990. Toshio is preceded in death by his wife, Miyoko Kunigami Uyeda. Toshio is survived by a daughter, Jayne Richardson of Beaufort; a brother, Kenneth Uyeda (Vivian); four sisters, Nobuko Suzuki (Kenshichi), Mildred Miyashiro (Thomas), Janet Mori (Craig), all of Hawaii, and Dorothy Vincent of Nevada; and his stepmother Michiko Uyeda of Hawaii. A memorial service will be held at Myosenji Nichiren Shoshu Temple in Silver Spring, Maryland with final interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, HI.
