BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Staff Sergeant Willis Daniel Latham, United States Marine Corps, Retired, 75, of Beaufort, South Carolina passed away Saturday following an ongoing battle with cancer.
He was born to the late Ray Latham and Wilmetta Combs, June 6, 1938, in Bristol, Washington County, Virginia. Willis Latham graduated from Cleveland High School and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
"Delta" Dan served with honor from 1962 to 1975, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6). He served with distinction in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 with the First Battalion, Ninth Marines, "The Walking Dead" where he received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat.
He is survived by his siblings, Robert Latham, Wayne Latham, Peggy Semancik, and Ted Latham; his son, Steven Clyde Wagner; his daughter, Dana Louise Latham Colombaro; and his grandchildren, Derek Alan Wagner and Alison Renea Wagner.
A viewing will be held Monday, September 16th at Copeland Funeral Service, Inc. from 5-7pm and Church Service will be held Tuesday September 17th at Sea Island Presbyterian Church at 10 am. Staff Sergeant Latham will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
