SSgt Charlie Levi Jenkins, United States Marine Corps (Ret.), 67, of Syracuse, New York and formerly of Beaufort, South Carolina, husband of Shirley Jenkins, died Thursday afternoon, February 8, 2018, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Monday, February 19, 2018, at Copeland Funeral Service - One Copeland Drive.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Burial, with full Marine Corps honors, will follow at 1 o'clock in Beaufort National Cemetery.

Charlie was born December 28, 1950, in Statesville, North Carolina and was the son of the late Col. H. Robert and Juanita Jenkins. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1969 and was a combat Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Charlie proudly served for 21 years until his retirement in Beaufort. He moved his family to the Charlotte area in 1990 and worked for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department before moving to New York in 2000. Charlie enjoyed fishing, baseball games, and spending time with his family and being a PopPop.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, H. Keith Jenkins.

Surviving to cherish his memory, his wife of 44 years, Shirley Y. Jenkins of Bluffton, South Carolina and Williamstown, New York; a son, Charles Robert Jenkins of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; a daughter, Mary Dawn Burke and her husband, Michael, and a granddaughter, Amber, all of Mexico, New York; brother-in-law, William Kinsey (Kersty) and Robbie Kinsey (Carla); a sister-in-law, Regina Jenkins of China Grove, North Carolina, and lifelong friends, Carol and Ronald Putnam.
