Stanley Morris Guthrie

DATAW ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA - Morris Guthrie, 77, of Dataw Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 30, 2012. After serving in the Air Force, Morris graduated at the top of his class from the University of Alabama.  He had an illustrious career with IBM, from which he retired at 53.  He enjoyed golf, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.  He was a leader in the community, and well-respected and loved by all that knew him. Morris was devoted to his wife Irene Guthrie (Swindal) to whom he was married for 58 years. Morris is survived by his wife Irene, his three children, Gina Guthrie Fuller, Stan Guthrie and his wife Christine, and Mike Guthrie and his wife Gina Marie; his 8 grandchildren Andrew, Katherine, Caroline, Laura, Peter, Evan, Mia and Michael; his 3 siblings, Glenn Guthrie, Lindsay Guthrie and Max Guthrie; and the rest of his relatives and friends.


Morris is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Clariece Guthrie. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on January 3, 2013 at Copeland Funeral Home on 1 Copeland Drive, Beaufort, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, Georgia, 31416-13190.
