BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Thomas Joseph Babin, 66, born in Savannah, GA on December 28, 1946, died after a lengthy and valiant fight with cancer, February 25, 2013, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort SC under hospice care with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Effie Babin, his mother-in-law, Frances H. Morrow and father-in law, Holmes A. Morrow. Tom graduated from Benedictine Military School, class of 1964, in Savannah, GA where he was a member of the first class to graduate from Benedictine at their new location on Seawright Drive. Although Tom lettered in baseball in high school, his true lifelong sport's passion was he and his wife's avid following of the Georgia Bulldogs and his beloved Washington Redskins. Tom attended Armstrong State College and later transferred to Georgia Southern College where he was one of the original charter members of the Alpha Tau Omega Chapter in Statesboro, GA. After college, Tom entered several business ventures before starting his current business, B & B Distributors in Beaufort, SC. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Beaufort S.C. and the Knights of Columbus. Tom is survived by his devoted and loving wife of nearly 40 years, Martha (Marti) Babin and his son Steffen Kobleur, Hilton Head, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Addison and Boyce Kobleur, Hilton Head, SC, his brother, Roy Babin, Marietta, GA, his sister-in-law, Kathryn Morrow, Beaufort, SC, his aunt, Eloise Leche, Savannah, GA and several cousins. The family wishes to express gratitude to friends, relatives and the professional care organizations that supported Tom during his battle. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Peters Catholic Church. Tom will be cremated. Family visitation and wake will be on Wednesday, February 27, from 5 to 6:30 PM with Catholic rosary to follow at 6:30 PM at Copeland Funeral Home, One Copeland Drive, Beaufort, SC 29902. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, February 28 at 11 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church, 70 Ladys Island Dr., Beaufort, SC 29907. The inurnment will take place immediately following the mass at St. Peters Memorial Gardens located immediately adjacent the church.
