Thomas L. Cameron

Thomas (Tom) W. L. Cameron, 91 of Callawassie Island, South Carolina, died at home on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

Born on February 19, 1927, Tom was the first of three children born to Percy G. and Mary (Mitchell) Cameron and brother to Robert A. Cameron and Jane Mary Cameron, all of whom are deceased.

Tom graduated high school from Belmont Hill School, Belmont, Massachusetts, in 1944. His undergraduate studies at Harvard University were interrupted by his service in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After graduating cum laude with an AB degree in American National Government from Harvard University in 1949, he earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1951.

In 1950, Tom married Carol (Soliday) Cameron, who remained the love of his life until her death in 2009. It was Carol's love for golf that turned Tom into a golf enthusiast, and they shared many golfing vacations, playing courses both in the United States and abroad. In 1965, he was one of the founders of the Waynesboro County Club in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, which he considered one of his crown jewel accomplishments.

After working several years for Proctor and Gamble, Tom began his investment career with Hopper Soliday in Philadelphia in 1953, where he served as Director, President, Chair and CEO and Partner.

His extensive experience in investment services included Director and Chair and Chief Investment Officer of Sovereign Investors Fund, Senior Vice-President at Interstate Johnson Lane/Wachovia, Chair of Cameron and Associates and Chair of Dividend Assets Capital, LLC.

During his career, he also served as Chair of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange and on many charitable boards, including the Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston, the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, the American Heart Association of Southeast Pennsylvania, the Beaufort Memorial Foundation, the Friends of Caroline Hospice, the Holy Trinity Classical Christian School and the Anglican Leadership Institute. Through his leadership and organizational skills, Tom brought people together to raise capital and operating dollars to support the work of numerous charitable organizations to which he became a champion.

Tom began his day reading from the Bible, then turning to his newspapers and clipping articles that interested him, sharing them with his business associates. Even after retiring from Dividend Assets Capital in 2014, he maintained his passion for his profession and was emphatic that he had no plans 'to sleep through retirement.' He continued his daily routine of clipping investment articles which he shared with his former partners.

Tom was a member of The Parish Church of St. Helena in Beaufort, South Carolina, which he attended every Sunday until he entered Hospice Care at home during the last couple weeks of his life. He lived his life with a sense of gratitude and generosity that motivated him to give back to the community, which was reflected in his charitable efforts both as a donor and a fundraiser.

Tom was predeceased by his son, Thomas (Tommy) Mitchell Cameron. He is survived by a daughter, Helen Cameron Clark, and two grandsons, Cameron and David Clark, of John's Island, South Carolina.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, December 5, 2018, at the Parish Church of St. Helena. A reception to follow the service at Spring Island Okatie, South Carolina.
