BEAUFORT - William Stratton Pollitzer died peacefully in his home in the early evening of July 5, 2014. He was predeceased by his father, Richard Guerard Pollitzer and his mother Madeleine von Bernuth Pollitzer.  He is survived by his son, William Christiaan Pollitzer (Harriet) and grandchildren, William Stratton Pollitzer II and Madeleine Tanner Pollitzer, his brother Richard Guerard Pollitzer II (Anne),his sister Suzanne Meta Pollitzer Merck and his beloved life partner, Barbara Greco as well as numerous friends and extended family. Known affectionately as "Dad", "Big Daddy", "Big Strat" and "Capt. Stratty", he was born in Beaufort on December 11, 1947 and attended Beaufort County Public Schools and Boles Academy in Jacksonville, FL.  After school, he entered upon a life as a mariner including work with the US Coast Guard, with Capt. Woody Collins aboard his long line boat, "Arenas", owner and operator of a shrimp boat the "Miss Leadenwah", and for Stevens Towing Co. as a Captain of river tugs.  The bulk of his career, however, was spent as the Capt. of the sport fishing vessel, "Hero" out of Harbor Town where he became a legend to the charter fishing community and beyond.  Known for his unforgettable character and charm, he will be missed by a tremendous amount of friends and family.  Fair winds and following seas forever.  Gone Fishin'. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to the Waddell Fund - Post Office Box 5542, Hilton Head, South Carolina, 29938 or to Children's Relief Fund, in care of Rose Fotia - 14 Wedgefield Drive, Hilton Head, South Carolina, 29926 (tax deductible). A graveside memorial service will be held at 4 o'clock Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Evergreen Cemetery.

A reception will follow at 505 Pinckney Street, Beaufort, South Carolina.
